Writes of forwarding a copy of the protest against the Archepiscopal See in the colony by the Bishop of Rome and a copy of a circular letter which Broughton addressed to the clergy.Expresses his desire that he be supported in his step against the Roman Catholics by the church in England.

Expresses joy at hearing of the purchase of land next to King's School Canterbury for a Missionary College. Informs Coleridge of his plan for a small college for the education of clergymen.

Reports on the illness of Chief Justice Sir James Dowling and the need to look for successor in case he retires and states the necessary qualifications and stipend.

1844-07-29

Informs Coleridge that he has appointed him as his commissary. Reports that by an Act of Parliament the Government has divided revenue for Public Worship among the four denominations. Proposed to divide a section of Diocese into six deaneries.Intended marriage of Mary Phoebe to Mr. Boydell.

Recapitulates letter No. 1/76 concerning the intention of the Bank of Australia to sue him. Gives a further account of the affair and expresses his fears.

Expresses deep suffering and loneliness as a result of the death of his wife and expresses concern over his daughter, Phoebe who also lost her child. Informs Coleridge that the threat to sue by the Bank of Australasia has been withdrawn.

Gives an account of trouble in New Zealand between the Maoris and the whites.

Examines financial matters concerning subscription to St. Augustine's College. Reports on the training,which he has undertaken, of some men for the ecclesiastical order. Expresses concern over the scarcity of clergymen which has prevented the opening of several churches and the holding of regular services. Is sending Coleridge S.P.G. journal of proceedings for 1845 and briefly describes what it relates to. Expresses opinion on Coleridge's report on matters in England including Mr. Watson's misgivings about St. Augustine's College and Mr. Newman's secession from the Church of England. Expresses his opinion of Mr. Walker of Parramatta and his account of the situation in the colony. Reports on the Bishop of New Zealand.

Reports on the arrival of more books for the Theological Library. Expresses concern over the maintenance of the Church of England in Australia in the future. Reports on the Romanists in the colony and the need to strengthen the Church of England.

Again dissuading Coleridge from accepting appointment to the Diocese of South Australia. States that he is considering a visit to England. Expresses a desire that an ecclesiastical institution be established within the Church of England under the direction of which everything pertaining to the preparation of the clergy is to be conducted. Expresses his opinion of Tract 90.
