Mathew 26:63-66 '...And the High Priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the son of God.' Theme: Sacrifice of Jesus. Considers the Jewish Governors prejudice, the confession and sentence of Christ. Attends to the history in a way of spiritual improvement. Urges the congregation to consider what Christ suffered and accept him because of this. 11pp., complete.

Mathew 23:37 'O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would Ihave gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!' Theme: God's treatment of the faithful. Considers Christ's compassion and warning against sin by his Providence and words, and the obstinancy of man in accepting false refuges and prefering temporal and carnal pleasures to spiritual and eternal ones. Exhorts the congregation to accept Christ before it is too late. 14pp., complete.

John 14:13 'And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son!' Theme: Prayer. Interprets the Gospel as an address to the disciples and everyone else. Determines to what extent Jesus willanswer prayer and for what end he will answer the prayer. Concludes with the inference that some appear to embrace God and Jesus but their lives do not correspond with this. Warns of the time when religion will be tried. 14pp., complete.

Job 34:29 'When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him...' Theme: Sinfulness. Considers God as supreme governor of the world and his displeasure against wicked and rebellious people. Compares the peace enjoyed by the godly to the peace possessed by the ungodly. Describes the plight of the wicked and urges them to embrace God. 8pp., complete.

John 6:34 'Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.' Theme: The Bread of Life. Considers the 'Petition for the Bread of Life' from God and the means by which one may offer a Petition for this bread. Determines the excellency of this Bread and the means by which it is to be obtained. 12pp., complete.

Luke 19:12-13 'He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return...' Theme: The Nobleman's neglect. Refers to noblemen as desiring earthly grandeur whilst neglecting important ends and purposes in life. Discusses the questions: Has Christ given some talent to improve? What improvement has been made? What excuse is there for neglecting to improve them? 10pp., complete.

Romans 8:26 'Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities...' Theme: Spirit of God. Refers to the Agency of the Spirit of God as a means of confirming and establishing the soul. Considers the Agency of the Spirit in seasons of suffering and seasons of prayer. 12pp., complete.
