Hosea 5:5 'And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face...' Theme: The influence of pride. Considers in relation to the text the sin of Israel and the judgements denounced against them. Exodus 20:15 'Thou shalt not steal.' Theme: Stealing. Describes what this command prohibits and enjoins and the causes of man's transgressing it. Illustrates that there is little temptation in the colony when compared to Britain, therefore there is little reason to break the commandment in the colony. Mathew 21:28-31 'But what think ye? A certain man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, son, go work in my vineyard...' Theme: Repentance. Compares the conduct of the two sons according to the parable. Ecclesiastes 7:16 'Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself overwise: Why shouldest thou destroy thyself?' Theme: Moderate righteousness. Discusses the meaning of the passage, explains the caution and recommends the People to attend to the caution and be righteous. Warns those who make profane use of this passage not to carry the test too far. 12pp., complete.
John 1:18 'No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.' Theme: God, the Father. Inquires as to what Christ declared of the Father and how he declared him. Concludes with an address to those who are ignorant of God. 12pp., complete., watermark 1815
Hebrews 11:13 'These all died in faith, not having received the promises...' Theme: Faith in God. Endeavours to show how these Prophets and Patriarchs did not receive the promises, that they believed and received him and confessed themselves pilgrims and strangers. 1 Peter 1:3-5 'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which, according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again...' Theme: Redemption. Considers the causes of Regeneration as a spiritual and supernatural change of heart and the security of the Regenerite.
