Kern expounds James 1. He looks at what it means to be humble, especially in relation to money, and having a perspective on the present in light of the future. Equally, he shows that those who are rich should also be living in light of the future, as they may lose their wealth because of their faith.

Kern looks at the use of some of the Greek terms used in the passage. He then explains the process from desire to sin to death. Kern contrasts this to God's gift of birth to life.
