Throughout the talk Smith explores the Old Testament references. Smith speaks on Hebrews 10:19-12:29. 1. Warning similar to chapter 6. 2. Optimism similar to chaper 6. 3. 10:33-38 - quote from Habbakuk, from Septuagint. Writer's confidence in the readers to keep trusting, and that he is not worried about re-shaping the text. 4. 11:1-3: Detailed discussion of faith as the assurance of things hoped for. Belief = confidence in something that hasn't happened. He compares this passage to Genesis 1-2, and chaos being changed into the world. Reality of the created order in relation to God. Speaker explores Genesis 1-3. Creation from God - those created are created from things unseen. Throughout the talk Smith explores the Old Testament references. Follows m4879, as not all of this passage was covered. 1. 12:1-3 - Those who genuinely trusted in God. Putting off things that hinder us from trusting God, and continuing towards Jesus as he leads. 2. 12:4-11 - The price paid by the readers. The need for disipline and suffering for sanctification. All believers experience suffering. 3. 12:12-17 - perserverance and care. Aims for peace and holiness, and don't fall short as we reflect God. 4. 12:18-24 - refers back to Exodus. Jerusaleum on earth mimicks Jerusaleum in heaven. Israel as God's firstborn on earth mimicks those with faith as God's firstborn. 5. 12:25-29 - warnings from above, and the reasons to heed the warnings. 6. 13:1-6 - the tempations people face and how to live in contrast. 7. 13:7-19 - living in light of a new Jerusaleum, especially praying for leaders., Continuation of m4779. Smith expounds Hebrews 12. Smith explores the writer's warning of turning away from God. He compares this passage to Matthew 2:31-46, and living out faith even if we don't realise it. Smith stresses the example of trusting God to fulfill his promises in Hebrews 12, with the example of Abraham., Beginning of talk is missing. White noise throughout. Throughout the talk Smith explores the Old Testament references. Smith expounds Hebrews 5:11-6:20. 1. 5:11-14 - rebuke to readers because of immaturity. 2. 6:1-4 - the logic of the sentences. Writer's proposal that he help them grow in maturity and understand Christ 6:5-end - baptism - more like washing/ceremonial washings, and the relationship between that and the laying on of hands. Smith looks at the general meaning of 'minister', with particular focus on those who are in pastoral ministry positions. Smith explores the responsibilities of the minister : 1. Smith compares Communism and Capitalism, and how each is in opposition to living on God's Word. He shows that this is a good reason to become a missionary.
