He challenges the audience to consider if they think of themselves as sanctified people,, and does this affect the way that we live. Thompson looks at the grace given to the Corinthians, to show that they are not lacking anything, reassuring them that grace is a resource from God, which enriches them. Thompson shows that God's grace makes the division in the church more tragic. He explores the appeal made to the Corinthians for unity.
