Shead talks on Genesis 2. He describes the man as "the son of the earth" and explores the relationship between Adam and the earth. Shead explains how the text shows the similiarities and differences between Adam and the animals. Detailed discussion of the two trees, their place in the garden, and the role of the rivers. Exploration of the difference between work and rest, where Adam's rest involves work. Shead explains the language of seeing in the passage.
Shead talks on Jesus' stilling of the storm from Mark 4:7-30 and Psalm 46. It causes us to ask "Who is this God?" God of creation is with us. God of salvation is with us. - he is our salvation, not a temple God of judgement is with us.
Shead talks on the end of Ecclessiastes - chapters 11 and 12. He looks at the broad structure of the two chapters. Chapter 11:1-6 Chapter 11:7-12:14 We don't know what will happen, thus we need to prepare for all possibilities. We can't work out how God works, so there is no point pondering it, better to get on with life. We need shrewdness to take advantage of God's generosity. Reading of chapter 12 as a struggle with aging heading towards death. Shead suggests that the main effect should be evocative. He encourages the reader to remember in the pride of their youth that they are just a creature, and thus should look to their creator.
Shead talks on wisdom from Ecclesiastes. He explores the benefits of trials and suffering, whilst also highlighting the pitfalls of suffering.
Talk from 1 Corinthians 2 and wisdom. Wisdom is Christ's death on a cross for our glorification at his own expense. In order to have the mind of Christ we must have the mind of Christ crucified. Shead encourages his students to read the Bible, rather than books about the Bible, as it is in the Bible that we will gain true wisdom.
Talk on Mark 8. Shead explores how there is a veil over people's eyes when they look at Jesus, just as the blind man saw gradually.
Shead talks on the doctrine of the word of God from Jehremiah, over the period of Josiah to Zedekiah. Jeremiah is compelled by the word of God to speak, including the effect it is having on Jeremiah. Shead explores why it is that Judah is being classed as one of the nations. He then explores the role of the word now.
