description:
Chapman explains John's Gospel as a theological history. He explains the structure of the gospel and the miracles John has selected. Chapman shows that mastering John 1 is the key to the gospel. He makes parallels between Genesis and John. Chapman explores the relationship between the Word and the Father, and to be the light.Chapman examines what John the Baptist says about Jesus, and the implications for these statements.Chapman speaks on the sign in John 2 and 3, particularly new birth from John 3. He shows that new birth leads to repentance and faith, that is, God gives us new birth, and we respond in repentance and faith. Chapman argues that repentance, faith and obedience are the signs of new birth. He shows that judgement comes when we reject the gospel. Chapman argues God's love is seen in action, and that if God's love is on you it is because he wants us to change.Chapman continues in John 5, and the response of the Jews in conflict with Jesus. He stresses how John uses the Sabbath to show the divinity of Jesus.
